San Antonio Hip Hop Artists That Showed Up and Showed Out at SXSW 2024

SXSW is always an event that has the artists in Sa-Town excited, because not only does it bring many great performance opportunities every year, but it also brings major networking opportunities nationwide and even in dome cases internationally.

The annual event is hosted in Texasโ€™ state capital city of Austin, TX, and features a broad variety of entertainment, from the arts and media, to film/tv, and music. There is literally something for everyone in entertainment at the week long event. This year the dates were March 8-16.

We could give you a long rundown of what all the event entails, but we are not here to do that, please visit their official website official website for that. We are here to show love to San Antonio artists that performed at this yearโ€™s SXSW official and unofficial events.

We had asked artists in our IG story to tag us in their SXSW performance reels with the name of the venue they performed at, and so those are the artists we would like to highlight in this article.

DeShaunJay

DeshaunJay is no stranger to performing in Austin. He does not only go there for just for SXSW, but he also travels to cities outside of the city to perform. He is known to stay low-key in San Antonio, yet networks effectively and strategically with media platforms within the city and abroad. His latest project is S.T.A.K.K.S., which released March 30, 2023. He performed at Gains & Growth Showcase, a collaboration between Major Gains Music Agency, Amplified, Shade45, and Better Life Entertainment, hosted at The Yard.

DeshaunJay definitely saw our IG story and got the memo, even tagging us in his Instagram reel post. Shout out to him for that.

Aliza1K

Also performing at the event, was San Antonioโ€™s rap queen and social media socialite, Aliza1k, whoโ€™s latest single is โ€œPraiseโ€, released March 3rd of this year. She is also one of the handful of artists in the city that maintain a solid 500+ listener base on Spotify music streaming platform. One of the more well-known artists in the city, Aliza1k first gained major attention on TikTok, with her famously candid โ€œWhat-a-Bagโ€ vlogs, that captivated her followers and even later caught the attention of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, who shared one of her vlogs to her story.

Kevin McGee

Another artist to look out for that performed at this event was Kevin McGee. Kevin McGeeโ€™s latest project is the October 2023 release, โ€˜& Friendsโ€™, a 12-track album that includes hit single, โ€œLeg Workโ€, featuring Lil Yodaa. The single alone has been gaining major traction in the city since September 2023 and now across the nation.

Lil Yodaa

Lil Yodaa is another city favorite that performed at this event. Proclaiming himself as โ€œThe Worst Rapper In Texasโ€, his latest release is a feature on Kevin McGeeโ€™s โ€œLeg Workโ€. His last solo project to date is โ€œBulletproofโ€, a July 2023 drop. Lil Yodaa has done collaborations with many artists in the city, but most notably started turning some heads with San Antonio legend and โ€œOriginal O.G.โ€ (formerly of the group Third Degree), King Kyle Lee, in the 2019 song, โ€œThey Gone Hateโ€.

Lil Yodaa quickly caught fans attention with his Boosie Badazz-like style. Something in his voice screams Boosie, yet also screams Lil Yodaa at the same time. You have to hear him to know what we mean.

Kevin McGee and Lil Yodaa are currently on their Leg Work Tour, and this performance served as just one leg of it. They performed at a few other events during SXSW as well, really literally putting in that โ€œLeg Workโ€.

Shout out to all artists, media, and promoters that held it down for the city during SXSW. Mad props to DiversiD for the Kevin McGee/Lil Yodaa tag, and to Loud City Society for being the media to represent at that event.

Everyone is putting in that work. We are noticing and we love it! Hopefully we will make it out to SXSW to witness it ourselves next year.
